Chess On Water

After 2 days and 4 races per division, the Worlds warm up event will finish today with their final 2 races of The Admiral’s Cup. We look to have a have a pair of winners emerging.

The Admiral himself, Ben Hall USA 99, in the Classic fleet on 11 points with 2 bullets, is proving that he is master of these light to middle conditions, and shifty until the sea breeze kicks in, and can cleverly stitch together a faster path through the holes in this game of chess on water at times on the course. Chasing him is Ken Marshack USA 192. This wily and fast old fox is on 16 points, so if Ben were to investigate the moorings of the top mark again, as he did in race 4, Ken is there to pounce. A few more point back, is Micky Todd ESP 7, who’s retirement in race 3 possibly put him out of contention for the top slot.

On the Foilers, local lad, Bruce Mahoney USA 311 on 5 points after 3 bullets, is showing the way to Stevie Brewin AUS 4 on 10 with 1 bullet, another sailor who is unnaturally attracted to the top mark, although he hemorrhaged fewer places as he actually took the mark away with him, meaning the followers had to round him to make it count. Next down is Robbie Daniel USA 180, on 18 points, and is sailing well in a strong field.

All is still to play for, as a breakage or catastrophic error by the leaders could see the trophy swap hands in the final day.
